L-420 XXL |
Allmetal twin-engine turboprop aircraft for carrying of 2100 kg bulk cargo or three MD3 container transport. Design based on L410 structure, with used ones rebuilding possibility. Rework with higher fuselage top and larger door installation, alternative with rear loading ramp. Study created according to FedEx interest. Special freighter version of L-420 for LD-3 containers transportDuring LET dialogues with Fairchild we discussed with FEDEX about possibilities of aircraft redesigning for three LD-3 containers transport in our L-410. Our management said that time - it is not possible to redesign our airplane for this purpose. But preliminary design department had another meaning. Redesigning of top shape of fuselage cross section - with 95 mm higher fuselage and enlarging of cargo door - That two changes only give possibility of three standard LD-3 containers loading. L-420 XXL can be developed in two alternatives: simpler L-420 XXL with side loading and L-420 XXL R with rear loading, needed all new rear fuselage part.
TECHNIAL DESCRIPTION:XXL version uses the wider port-side cargo door, optimized for LD-3 loading. XXL R version has all another rear part of fuselage, with two-parts rear doors, hinged on side hinges and opened 90 degrees to both sides. It needs all redesigned rear fuselage beams, with strengthened tail for better yaw stability. This variant has fuselage plug in front of wing for moving center of gravity range with only containers loading. For both basic versions Preliminary maximum cargo weight is 2100 kg, 4630 lb. For cargo weight 3000 to 3500 kg, ideal for 3 LD-3 containers, aircraft will need bigger redesigning, mainly in reinforcing of structure (wings spars etc.) and more powerful power plants. L-420 XXL"Extra large" version of L 420 E redesigned for transport of three LD-3 containers.
L-420 XXL is version with new extended nose and rebuilt top part of rear fuselage with bigger side doors in Loadmaster style. Redesign of fuselage will use the same style and aerodynamic shape, only with in top side 95 mm higher and wider frames. This version is cheaper and easier for development. L-420 XXL RSpecial version of L 420 , redesigned for transport of three LD-3 containers, with rear doors, divided in symmetrical plane and aircraft axis direction containers loading.
L-420 XXL R is its subversion, which respected a Fedex needs from the past – FEDEX prefered rear two parts doors for axis style LD-3 container loading. This variant is more expensive and need more proofs and flying tests, which can brings next needed changes in aerodynamic shape of tail. But from customer side, it offer better operating characteristics, easier loading and it can be more important for operator.
