Interplane Skyboy |
First flight 1993. Strutted highwing with aluminum alloy airframe and composite side-by-side canopy with pusher Rotax 462 - 912ULS engine. Maximal cruise speed 140-160 km/hod.
Production : Interplane sro , Zbraslavice - Czech republic SKYBOY is side-by-side ultralight aircraft, conforms to Czech UL-2 and Germany BFU-DULV requirements, type certificated in Czech and Germany. All metal design, light high-wing airplane with braced riveted aluminum alloy cage structure, composite fuselage pod and aluminum boom supporting conventional tail surfaces and fixed tricycle landing gear with steerable nose wheel. Glass-fiber/epoxy semi-monocoque fuselage pod. Aircraft is designed for easy montage and disassembling for easy transport and hangar parking. Skyboy is connected with Interplane s.r.o. firm , originally created in 1992 for its production by group around ing. Milan Matějka and Petr Henčl in Kolín airport. First flight was done 16. April 1993 in Kolín , after that the firm moved to Zbraslavice airport. Original Skyboy was developed according to older requirements with stall speed under 55km/hod and 250kg empty weight. From this reason aircraft used "lift" profile P3 and relatively simple structure. Thanks of that access Skyboy aircraft in basic version was able to fill US regulation for "ultralight trainer" with 227 kg empty weight limit. That time it was one from first two-seat aircraft in Czech and one from small number which was able to really fill actual requirements. Skyboy was first Czech aircraft with preliminary Germany certificate BFU/DULV. on the pictures : GRYF klub around prototype - Marián Mečiar was picking up Zdenek Ančík , Vaclav Zajíc and Luboš Mitáš. Jirka Vychopeň, Marián Rydlo and Zdeno Petira flown themself.
Both of my 13-year sons tried Skyboy is full stabil and simple controlable that time, only my wife did not show so much enjoying of adventure activities.
After financial problem Ralph Mandarino come to Interplane sro firm , who is now its 100% owner. In Sun'n Fun 1995 he brought first Skyboy and 2 years later he offered under name Interplane USA Skyboy, Griffon, Sova and Eurostar aircraft. Ralph Mandarino chosen good first step - signed up Bill McClung, director of Sun'n Fun and Ben Dawson, two known persons from USA UL community. SKYBOY has excellent all round performance such as short field take off and landing capability. SKYBOY is flying now in Australia, South Africa, United States, Mexico, South Corea, and in whole Europe – Germany, France, Belgium, Nederland, Denmark, Austria, Portugal, Luxembourg, Poland, Bulgaria,.... Slovak Republic and, of course – in Czech Republic. SKYBOY fills international sports FAI UL category. These all turn SKYBOY into the ideal aircraft to enjoy a new tourism in the sky - cross-country. However, SKYBOY is an legal Ultralight and thus it offers maximal freedom! Special lightened SKYBOY UL version fills USA FAR Pt.103 regulation for ultralight trainers. That time European requirements was changed and bigger stall speed and empty weight gave possibility to have Skyboy with more acceptable wing with NACA 4412 profile and some changes specially developped for US average customer. There was created in the real all new aircraft , from which more then 50% was delivered to USA with four-stroke 100HP engine ROTAX 912 ULS. Skyboy was in some versions produced by Interplane till now around 80 pieces. www.interplaneaircraft.com Skyboy changes for USA market - smaller wing with pressed ribs and simpler aerodynamic struts, reinforced dismountable doors, tail from my never finished P-11 project, optional flaps...
TECHNICAL DATA
Aircraft DescriptionAIRFRAME: Strut-braced high-wing monoplane, with braced aluminum alloy cage structure, composite fuselage pod and aluminum boom supporting conventional tail surfaces. Glass-fiber/epoxy semi-monocoque fuselage pod. Wings can be easy dismount and horizontal tail surfaces can be quickly folded for transportation and storage. FUSELAGE has a simple strength all-metal basic structure with a ridge beam 120 x 2 mm and box top beam with hinges of wings and engine mounting and upper cross beam with undercarriage and strut hinges, both riveted from aluminum alloy plates. Airframe structure is connected through aluminum alloy tubes. Composite canopy-fuselage fairing with integral seats, floor and instrument panel cover has the fixed center part of windshield, which is usable for flying in the open air without doors. Two dismountable side doors with large windows are opened through gas struts and lockable. WINGS have aluminum tube spars and aluminum alloy pressed ribs, 100 % double surface Ceconite fabric covered. Airfoil NACA 4412 for EX version with composite leading edge, high-lift airfoil P3 for UL version, without leading edge. 40% span ailerons, controlled through torsion tube. TAIL is classical cables braced cross-type, with flat profile, riveted and screw-connected from aluminum alloy tubes and Al profiles and covered by hot-air stressed Poly-Fiber fabric. Elevator is weight balanced, with wire-controlled trim-tab. Horizontal tail surfaces have foldable hinges, to be able quickly folded to fin for transportation. Rudder is controlled through wires in plastic tubes. Three-axis control: 40% span ailerons, elevator with trim tab, and rudder. Classical dual CONTROL through control sticks between pilots and dual rudder pedals with optional brakes drivers for left side pilot. Elevator and ailerons are controlled through rods and levers system, rudder and trim tab through cables. Rudder control is connected with nose wheel steering. Trim handle is located between both pilots. Dual throttle is located on the side of canopy, elevator trim-tab handle and engine control is located on the central panel. LANDING GEAR: Non-retractable tricycle type, with hydro-pneumatic shock absorbers. Main wheels 16x3", nose wheel 12x3". Steerable nose gear with rubber block shock absorbers. Standard nose gear with Drum Toe Brakes, controlled by handle on the joystick. For option main wheels with hydraulic disc brakes, controlled separately by pedals. POWER PLANT: Standard 48 kW (65 hp) Rotax 582 UL - DCDI two-cylinder two-stroke engine, with 2.58:1 Rotax reduction gearbox. Standard pusher 3-blade GFK- on the ground adjustable propeller and electric starter for EX , rewind starter for UL version. Optional: 80 hp Rotax 912, or 100HP Rotax 912ULS four-cylinder four-stroke engine, Rotax 462, Hirth 2706, Verner SVS 1400. ACCOMMODATION: Individual side by side seats for two persons in enclosed cabin, the main pilot’s seat being to port. Sport car –style seat rests. Dual control standard: dual control sticks, dual rudder pedals, dual throttles and central elevator trim handle. EQUIPMENT: An instrument panel is equipped with the standard airspeed indicator, altimeter, bank indicator, tachometer and fuel gauge, provision is made to install the optional compass, vertical velocity indicator, cylinder head, cooling fluid or exhaust temperature gauges, motor-hour counter, radio, intercom and GPS. PERFORMANCES
