From the designer of the SkyBoy, Jaroslav Dostal, comes another sleek new microlight/LSA, the MD3 Rider, being offered by Flyitalia. The all-metal semi-monocoque design has full dual controls. The cocpit, which is welded steel tube cage construction, is about 45 inches wide. Jaroslav invited Dan Johnson and I to sit inside; we found ample shoulder room and, like the SkyBoy the seats were quite comfortable, though the angle looks slightly supine when the aircraft is sitting on the ground. The aircraft is powered by the 80-hp Rotax 912, with the 100-hp Rotax912S an option. The aft fuselage and wings are all-metal. |
